Ashburton Food & Drink Festival Poster Series
The Ashburton Food & Drink Festival is an annual event celebrating the Devon town's cultural and culinary diversity. After graduating from university this year I was approached by the Ashburton Chamber of Trade to design a series of event posters for the Festival. As a resident of this delightful town I am proud to live in a town where its community spirit is second to none, and I was more than happy help out in any way that I could.

Ashburton is a small gateway town on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It is town renowned for its celebrations of its heritage year in and year out, from the Bread Weighing and Ale Tasting Ceremony to this – The Ashburton Food & Drink Festival.

Organised in collaboration between local businesses and Born Hectic Events, 'The Ashburton Food & Drink Festival' is a friendly food festival teeming with local foodie delights, refreshing beverages and great entertainment. It has become a key event in the town's calendar and gives local businesses, pubs and restaurants – and the Ashburton Cookery School – a chance to show off their stuff.
The poster series consists of four designs, developed with a key visual focus – celebrating Ashburton's culinary culture in a friendly yet aesthetically-captivating way.

Hand-drawn brush typefaces are used to give the typography a natural and friendly appearance, whilst also maintaining legibility to convey the important information clearly. The hierarchy of the type is applied across all four of the poster designs, whilst the background images were chosen to illustrate the base ingredients of many food dishes – which may be prepared by vendors for the Festival – and provide a captivating visual element.
